7 Churches of Revelations – Thyatira: The Fourth Church

The fourth church, Thyatira (Revelations 2:18-29), has a problem even more serious than the problems of the Church of Pergamos. Listen to what the Lord Jesus says about Thyatira. Every Christian belongs to one of the 7 churches of Revelations. Let us examine ourselves and prayerfully seek God’s face and forgiveness.

Revelations 2:18-29, “And unto the angel of the church of Thyatira write; These things saith the Son of God, who hath his eyes like unto a flame of fire, and his feet are like fine brass;
I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
Notwithstanding I have a few things against thee, because thou sufferest that woman Jezebel, which calleth herself a prophetess, to teach and to seduce my servants to commit fornication and to eat things sacrificed unto idols.
And I gave her space to repent of her fornication; and she repented not.
Behold, I will cast her into a bed, and them that commit adultery with her into great tribulation, except they repent of their deeds.
And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
But unto you I say, and unto the rest in Thyatira, as many as have not this doctrine, and which have not known the depths of Satan, as they speak; I will put upon you none other burden.
But that which ye have already hold fast till I come.
And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
And I will give him the morning star.
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.”

7 Churches of Revelations – Thyatira: Revelation of Jesus

Jesus reveals himself as the Son of God with eyes a like flame of fire. He also states his legs are like fine brass that is burned in a furnace, (see Revelations 1:14-15). By stating such things he is saying that he is the ONLY Son of God. He is the one that suffered the fires of hell for our sins and survived to purchase our salvation, (see Psalms 16:10-11 and Acts 2:27 – 31). He is the one who possesses the keys to hell and death, (see Revelations 1:18). He also states that he sees everything. Nothing is hidden from his gaze.

Revelations 1:14-15, “His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire; And his feet like unto fine brass, as if they burned in a furnace; and his voice as the sound of many waters.”

Psalms 16:10-11, “For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.”

Acts 2:27-32, “Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. This Jesus hath God raised up,whereof we all are witnesses”

7 Churches of Revelations – Thyatira: Good Things

Jesus states that the Church of Thyatira has had good works, charity, and patience. And their works are great works, but works cannot save a man. Only the precious blood of Christ can save anyone.

7 Churches of Revelations – Thyatira: The Problem

The Church of Thyatira has leaders and prophets that worship other gods. They claim to be beacons of light while teaching doctrines of death and destruction. Just as Jezebel in the Old Testament killed the prophets of God and raised up false prophets to corrupt Israel, so also the leaders of the Church of Thyatira have forsaken the doctrine of Christ to teach doctrines of men and devils. Jesus has given them time to repent, but they would not. They’ve even denied the Lord who died to save them! (see Jude verse 4 and I John 4:1-3).

Jude :4, “For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know we the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: and every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is the spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.”

7 Churches of Revelations – Thyatira: The Solution

Test and try the spirits to see whether they are from God, (see I John 4:1 in verse above). Check everything by the word of God. Cling to the word of God! Don’t be fooled by those who teach anything but the doctrine of Jesus Christ. I John chapter 4 gives instructions on testing the spirits. The principles of the Doctrine of Christ are clearly stated in Hebrews 6:1-2. Study the Bible to learn God’s doctrine. Do not be deceived. The testimony of Jesus Christ is the spirit of prophecy, (see Revelations 19:10).

Hebrews 6:1-2, “Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.”

And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

7 Churches of Revelations – Thyatira: The Judgment

Jesus sees the hearts and reins of every person. He knows every evil deed that is committed. These have known the very depths of Satan, but try to hide their deeds by religion. Those who have given themselves over to ungodly doctrines and teach them to others despite knowing the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ will suffer the wrath of God. Just as Jezebel’s family was destroyed, so also these false prophets will also be destroyed. Flee fornication and those that teach this doctrine (see I Corinthians 6:18-20, and I Corinthians 7:2.)

I Corinthians 6:18-20, “Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his body. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

I Corinthians 7:2, “Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.”

It is impossible to live a lifestyle of fornication and adultery and serve Jesus. It cannot be done. Repent, and run as far and as fast from these sins and those who teach them as you can.

The only sex that is honored by God is between a husband and wife. Everything else is fornication.

Hebrews 13:4, “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.”

God warns us to listen. He says, “He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches…”

7 Churches of Revelations – Thyatira: The Reward

Those who continue to trust and serve Jesus despite the hypocrisy of others will rule over nations according to the righteous judgment of God, (see Isaiah 11:1-4 and I Corinthians 6:2). They will also partake in the bright and morning star, (Jesus), who gives them eternal life, (see Revelations 22:16-21).

Isaiah 11:3-4, “And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the Lord: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears: But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

I Corinthians 6:2, “Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

Revelations 22:16-21, “I Jesus sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.
And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.
For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in the book:
And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.
He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”

It is my prayer that all God’s children will repent and seek Jesus with all their hearts.
