Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John
Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John: Eye Witness
The Apostle John was one of the men chosen by God to be an eyewitness to the
incredible life of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. He was called by Jesus when Jesus began his ministry; He was present when the voice from heaven spoke on the mount confirming Jesus as the Son of God; He was present at the death of Jesus Christ; and he was eyewitness to his resurrection.
- Matthew 4:21, “And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother,in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.”
- Matthew 17:1-8, “And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up unto an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.”
- II Peter 1:16, “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses to his majesty.”
- I John 1:1-3, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us; That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”
It is evident from the scriptures that John the Apostle was not a second-hand witness, but was an eyewitness of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ the Son of God.
Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John – Word of God & Testimony of Jesus
Not only was John an eyewitness to the majesty of our Lord Jesus Christ, but gave himself to the ministry of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.
Revelation chapter 1:1-2, “…unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.”
This passion that John possessed for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus are pleasing to God. God directs John to mention that passion again in Revelation Chapter 1.
Revelation 1:9, “I John who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.”
How pleasing is that passion for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ to God? We can see in God’s commendation of the Church of Philadelphia in Revelation chapter 3 that God is well pleased with that passion.
Revelation 3:7-8, “And to the angel of the church of Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.”
Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John – Pure Joy
The blessings of the Church of Philadelphia are unimaginable! How great God’s blessing is upon those who keep his word and have the testimony of his Son Jesus Christ!
Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John – My Prayer
It is my prayer that all believers who read these words will give themselves completely to God’s word and the testimony of Jesus Christ that they may have complete joy at the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is also my prayer that all who read these words and don’t know Jesus as Lord and Savior, will repent of their sin and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior that they too may be partakers of the blessings of God through Jesus Christ. In Jesus name. Amen.
In Christ
