Creation of the Universe: The First Great Separation
Creation of the Universe: The First Great Separation
The first thing that God created was light. (Genesis 1:3-4) Why did God create light? God did
not need the light so he could see. (Psalms 139:12) He can see everything. Nothing can be hidden from him. The light is so that we can see God. The light that was first created is not a physical light, it is the light of salvation. God loves us so much that he created our salvation before anything else. (II Corinthians 4:6)
Before sin entered into the world God already provided for us his great salvation. God separated the light from the darkness. This is the first great separation of creation.
LIGHT from darkness
Holiness from godlessness
Righteousness from sin
Salvation from condemnation
The Day and Night on the first day of creation is not a physical day and night but a spiritual day and night. The day revealed in Genesis 1:5 refers to the salvation Light. That is why he calls believers in Christ, children of the Day. (I Thessalonians 5:5-9)
God planned for the salvation of mankind through Jesus Christ from the very beginning, even before the foundation of the world. (Ephesians 1:4, I Peter 1:20) God’s first priority in all of creation was to provide salvation for us. God never has to second guess anything. He knows us even before we know ourselves.
Creation of the Universe: The Second Great Separation
God proclaims his first two great separations in Genesis verse 5. The separation of light and darkness and the separation of time. Time is also a created thing.
Creation of the Universe: Bible literal
I have been asked many times, “Do you believe the Bible is literal?”
My answer is always yes.
“Then how do you explain the universe being created in seven twenty-four hour days?”
First of all, I believe if God wanted to create the universe in seven twenty-four hour days that he could. But, the Bible doesn’t teach that. The days mentioned in creation are not time as we know it. Each of the creation days consisted of one thousand years of our time. (II Peter 3:8, Psalms 90:4)
God’s word teaches us that each day of creation equals one thousand years of man’s time. Thus, from the beginning of creation through the seventh day was seven thousand years.
Creation is not a building up as some would suppose, but it is God taking from himself through separations and providing for his creation. All things come from God.
