Creation of the Universe – Day five: Fish and Fowls
- Genesis 1:20-23, “And God said, let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving
creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And God blessed them saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth. And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.”
It is on the fifth day of creation of the universe that God creates fish and fowl. He created the animals to fill the seas and fly in the air. (Genesis 1:20-23) God then tells them to be fruitful and multiply in the seas and in the earth. God even provides the creatures with a means to multiply on the earth.
Here again God pronounces that everything must reproduce after their own kind. God puts separation between each species of animal.
Creation of the Universe: A Bad Joke
As I was writing I thought about old jokes that were popular when I was a kid.
Question: What do you get when you cross an elephant with a leech?
Answer: A Big Sucker!
Some of the jokes were funny and some were not so funny, but in reality, if animals could cross species lines the confusion would be massive. God, who is a God of order, has created all things to be orderly. He is not the author of confusion. The smallest details were “tended to” by our awesome loving God. God’s principle of separation and protection even applies to animals.
Creation of the Universe: Day Five Reveals Separation and Protection
Another interesting fact worth noting is that God made a distinction between the great firmament called heaven, (outer space), created on the second day of creation and the open firmament of heaven, (or the earth’s atmosphere), created on the fifth day of creation. God separated the firmaments from each other to protect the earth and its creatures. God’s principle of separation and protection is evident in the creation of earth’s atmosphere.
Remember that the Bible was written thousands of years before man’s ability to make any scientific distinction between the atmosphere and outer space. These simple verses show an incredible intellect at work in the planning, creating, and providing for the universe long before man’s ability to make these distinctions.
Creation of the Universe: Other Facts in the Bible
Facts about God’s creation of the universe are seen throughout the Bible. Examples of other creation facts:
The Bible gives indication of the use of sub-atomic materials in the creation. (Hebrews 11:3) The Bible reveals the Jet Stream centuries before man’s ability to make such distinctions. (Ecclesiastes 1:6) The list of scientifically observable Bible facts is endless.
Creation of the Universe: Conclusion
God gives us many obvious proofs of his existence and his provision for his creation. The truth of God’s word, the Bible, is evident all around us if we will only seek him with our whole heart.
