Doctrine of Baptisms: The Three Witnesses –
Doctrine of Baptisms: Witnesses
Have you ever been a witness to some event? Have you seen an accident you had to describe to a police officer? Maybe you witnessed a marriage certificate, or some legal document.
For most legal documents we use a notary public, which is a bonded legal witness.
A notary has standing in a court of law. Why does a notary have standing? Because the notary must meet certain bonding qualifications and carry insurance which insures the witness of the notary is true.
God also has witnesses. We know that Christians are witnesses about God’s work of redemption through Jesus Christ, but God also provides other witnesses which are revealed by the Doctrine of Baptisms.
Doctrine of Baptisms: The Three Witnesses – Spirit, Water, Fire –
I John 5:7-11, “For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. And there are three that bear witness in earth, the spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one. If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar, because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.”
The three witnesses on earth, spirit, water, and blood, are embodied in the three baptisms given to the believer by Jesus Christ himself:
The baptism in the Holy Ghost,
The baptism in water,
The baptism in fire.
The next several blogs will take a look at each baptism and its significance.
