The Fall of Man – The Serpent
The Fall of Man – The Serpent: The Lie
We know from the Bible that the serpent tempted the woman and the man. He greatest weapon against man is the lie. The serpent is subtil and dangerous. He was instrumental in the fall of man and hates mankind.
- Genesis 3:1-5, “Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which
the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden? And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die. And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”
Just as the serpent lied to Adam and Eve in the garden, so also he lies today and tells men that sin does not kill. That is the lie. Sin kills thousands of people daily.
The Fall of Man – The Serpent: Who is the Serpent
The serpent in Genesis is physically a snake, but spiritually the devil, Satan.
- Revelation 20:2, “And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,”
Murder was in the heart of Satan that day in the garden. Satan is the original liar and murderer. The lie he used in the garden is the same lie he uses today. “Ye shall not surely die:”
Sin kills. No matter how much it’s sugar-coated it still kills.
The Fall of Man – The Serpent: A Murderer from the Beginning
The devil is a murderer from the beginning. Every lie originates with him, and he works through lust. How do we know? The Bible says so.
- John 8:44, “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.”
When Jesus spoke these words to the men who wanted to kill him he reveals the father of lies and murder.
If only we would realize the seriousness of sin, and repent and turn to the Lord Jesus, then we would have the peace that God intends.
In Christ
