Fall of Man – Two Special Trees
Fall of Man – Two Special Trees: Revealing Mysteries
How do two trees impact the fall of man? The Bible is full of mysteries and revelation, but the mysteries of God can only be understood by those seeking the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ is revealed throughout the Bible from beginning to end. Jesus Christ is the key to unlocking the mystery of the Bible.
- John 5:39-40, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life:
and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.”
- Revelation 3:7-8, “And to the angel of the church in Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.”
It wasn’t until I realized every word in the Bible is put there for our instruction I realized seemingly insignificant details can be key in revealing Bible truth.
- Matthew 4:4, “But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.”
Fall of Man – Two Special Trees: Fact and Allegory
- Genesis 2:8-9, “And the Lord God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. And out of the ground made the Lord God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.”
Among all the trees that were created two had special import; the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.
The Bible reveals both trees existed physically, but what is the significance of these two trees? God’s Word gives us clues.
- Proverbs 3:13-18, “Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, and the man that getteth understanding. For the merchandise of it is better than the merchandise of silver, and the gain thereof than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies: and all the things thou canst desire are not to be compared unto her. Length of days is in her right hand; and in her left hand riches and honour. Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her; and happy is every one that retaineth her.”
The Bible clearly states the tree of life represents the wisdom of God.
Fall of Man – Two Special Trees: What wisdom is the Bible talking about?
- II Timothy 3:15, “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
It is obvious the tree of life also represents the wisdom of salvation in Jesus Christ.
Fall of Man – Two Special Trees: What about the tree of knowledge of good and evil?
- I Corinthians 8:1, “Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.”
- Proverbs 16:18-19, “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall. Better it is to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud.”
Knowledge for the sake of pride causes destruction. It gives a haughty spirit and rebellion against God.
Fall of Man – Two Special Trees: Two Choices
So God set before man two choices: the wisdom of salvation, or the pride of man.
Every day people are faced with these choices. Wisdom through salvation in Jesus Christ, or destruction through the pride of man.
The fall or salvation of mankind rests on these two choices.
I have seen the destruction wrought by man’s pride. The only real choice for me is Life through Jesus Christ the Son of God.
The following articles in this series on the fall of man will reveal the effect of salvation and pride on Adam and Eve and mankind as a whole.
