Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John: Eye Witness
The Apostle John was one of the men chosen by God to be an eyewitness to the incredible life of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ. He was called by Jesus when Jesus began his ministry; He was present when the voice from heaven spoke on the mount confirming Jesus as the Son of God; He was present at the death of Jesus Christ; and he was eyewitness to his resurrection.

Matthew 4:21, “And going on from thence, he saw other two brethren, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother,in a ship with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them. And they immediately left the ship and their father, and followed him.”

Matthew 17:1-8, “And after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bringeth them up unto an high mountain apart, And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was as the light. And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him. Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias. While he spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid. And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.”

II Peter 1:16, “For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses to his majesty.”

I John 1:1-3, “That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us; That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.”

It is evident from the scriptures that John the Apostle was not a second-hand witness, but was an eyewitness of the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ the Son of God.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John – Word of God & Testimony of Jesus

Not only was John an eyewitness to the majesty of our Lord Jesus Christ, but gave himself to the ministry of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Revelation chapter 1:1-2, “…unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.”

This passion that John possessed for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus are pleasing to God. God directs John to mention that passion again in Revelation Chapter 1.

Revelation 1:9, “I John who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.”

How pleasing is that passion for the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ to God? We can see in God’s commendation of the Church of Philadelphia in Revelation chapter 3 that God is well pleased with that passion.

Revelation 3:7-8, “And to the angel of the church of Philadelphia write; These things saith he that is holy, he that is true, he that hath the key of David, he that openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth; I know thy works: behold, I have set before thee an open door, and no man can shut it: for thou hast a little strength, and hast kept my word, and hast not denied my name.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John – Pure Joy

The blessings of the Church of Philadelphia are unimaginable! How great God’s blessing is upon those who keep his word and have the testimony of his Son Jesus Christ!

Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John – My Prayer

It is my prayer that all believers who read these words will give themselves completely to God’s word and the testimony of Jesus Christ that they may have complete joy at the return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It is also my prayer that all who read these words and don’t know Jesus as Lord and Savior, will repent of their sin and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior that they too may be partakers of the blessings of God through Jesus Christ. In Jesus name. Amen.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John: Importance of John’s Witness

The witness of the Apostle John in Revelation Chapter 1 is very important to understanding the book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

Revelation Chapter 1:1-2, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John: Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things he saw.”

There are some important reasons the Apostle John was chosen by to write the last book of the Bible.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John: John’s Ancestry

It is no small matter that John was a Jew. As a matter of fact it is no small matter that the entire Bible from Genesis to Revelations was written by those of Jewish ancestry. The Bible is very clear in stating that the oracles of God are given by the Jews. Only the Jews have been commissioned by God to write down the word of God from beginning to end!

Romans 3:1-2, “What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Much in every way: chiefly because that unto them were committed the oracles of God.”

Acts 7:37-38, “This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear. This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us.”

Romans 11:29, “For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John: Christianity is a Jewish Movement

I am a Christian. I am also a Gentile believer, and as a Gentile I sometimes forget that Christianity is a Jewish Movement, ordained by God, for the salvation of all who seek him, through Jesus Christ his Son. God has ordained that salvation only comes through the Jew. Israel is God’s chosen people. We Gentiles have been allowed, by the grace of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to participate with God’s chosen people in salvation and eternal life.

John 4:22, “Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.”

The prophets foretold of the salvation of Jew and Gentile alike.

Isaiah 49:6, “And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.”

Jesus first called the lost sheep of Israel.

Matthew 15:24, But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

Jesus foretold that many would enter the kingdom of heaven.

Matthew, 8:11, “And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven.”

Jesus himself ordained that his Jewish believers would be sent first to Judaea, then Samaria, then worldwide.

Luke 24:47, “And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Acts 1:8, “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be my witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Fourth Witness – Apostle John: My Prayer

Father, thank you for your great mercy and allowing me, a Gentile, to partake of your great salvation, through Jesus Christ your Son, with your people Israel. I ask that all who read these pages, whether Jew or Gentile, would repent and accept your great salvation through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Third Witness – Angels: Signified by Angels
Revelation Chapter 1 reveals the third witness. The third witness of the Revelation of Jesus Christ are angels. This witness is seen in the first verse of Revelations chapter 1. Although there is some confusion among believers about the ministry and testimony of the angels, the Bible gives us definite description of their ministry.

This witness is seen in the first verse of Revelations chapter 1. Although there is some confusion among believers about the ministry and testimony of the angels, the Bible gives us definite description of their ministry.

Revelation 1:1, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Third Witness – Angels: Special Witness and Mission

The angels have a special witness and mission. They are heralds (announcers) to the coming of Christ. They heralded the coming of the baby Jesus Christ. They announced the resurrection of Jesus Christ at the tomb. And, they will herald the return of Christ.

Luke 1:8-14, “And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.”

Matthew 28:1-7, “In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to the sepulchre. And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and become as dead men. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know ye seek Jesus which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said, Come, see the place where the Lord lay. And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.”

I Thessalonians 4:15-18, “For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Third Witness – Angels: Ministry to Christ

The Angels ministered to Christ in his Temptations.

Matthew 4:9-11, “And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me. Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve. Then the devil leaveth him, and, behold angels came and ministered unto him.”

Luke 22:42-43, “Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done. And there appeared an angel unto him from heaven, strengthening him.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Third Witness – Angels: Ministry to Believers

The angels minister for those who shall be heirs of salvation.

Hebrews 1:13-14, “But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not ministering spirits, sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs of salvation?”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Third Witness – Angels: Do not Worship Angels

The Bible is very clear in stating that angels are not to be worshiped.

Colossians 2:18, “Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his own mind.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Third Witness – Angels: Cannot Alter Gospel of Christ

Angels from God cannot alter the Gospel of Christ. Any message received from an angel must be in complete agreement with the scriptures in the Holy Bible.

Galatians 1:8, “But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Third Witness – Angels: Heavenly Witnesses

Finally, the angels are heavenly witnesses to the amazing grace of God toward mankind through his only son, Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God.

I Timothy 3:16. “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.”

Revelation 5:11-12, “And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: And the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Second Witness – Jesus Christ: Faithful and True Witness
The second witness to the Revelation of Jesus Christ is Jesus himself. Jesus Christ is the Faithful and True Witness of God. Jesus Christ is the perfect witness to the love and mercy of God. That is his commandment from the Father.

Revelation 1:1 “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him…”

Jesus Christ is the perfect witness to the love and mercy of God. That is his commandment from the Father.

Revelation 1:1 “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him…”

John 12:49-50, “For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak. And I know his commandment is life everlasting: whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Second Witness – Jesus Christ: The Father’s Will

It is the Father’s will that all will come to repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ.

John 6:39-40, “And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

God himself through Jesus Christ his Son has testified that all who believe in Christ may have everlasting life and become the sons of God.

John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe in his name.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Second Witness – Jesus Christ: The Message

The message that Jesus brings is that all men should repent of their sins and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Matthew 4:17, “From that time Jesus began to preach, and say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

It is in repenting and receiving Jesus as Lord as Lord and Savior that men can be saved and have eternal life.

Romans 10:8-10, “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Second Witness – Jesus Christ: The Father’s Command

Jesus is waiting for all to repent and come to him. His command from the Father is to give eternal life to all who come to him…for he is the only way to eternal life.

Acts 4:10-12, “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Second Witness – Jesus Christ: Word of God Became Flesh

Jesus is the Faithful and True Witness. He is the Word of God who became flesh. He is shown us the way to eternal life. All we have to do is repent and accept God’s great mercy through our Lord Jesus Christ.

John 1:1-4, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men.”

John 1:14, And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Second Witness – Jesus Christ: A Tragedy

Let us humbly accept the grace that is brought to us through the Lord Jesus Christ. If we do not accept his grace and mercy…we will be found fighting the very God who loves us. That will be a tragedy indeed.

Revelation 19:11-16, “And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Second Witness – Jesus Christ: My Prayer

It is my prayer that all who come to this site may repent and accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. There is no other way to gain eternal life. Believe this glorious message that is brought to us by the Son of God himself, Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 2:3, “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;”

Revelation Chapter 1 – 5 Witnesses to Revelations
One of the first things I noticed about the Revelation of Jesus Christ is that God reveals five witnesses in the first verse of Revelations. These witnesses are the Father, Jesus Christ, angels, the servant John, and all Christ’s redeemed servants.

Revelation 1:1, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass, and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:”

Revelation Chapter 1 – 5 Witnesses to Revelations: Spiritually Discerned

The Revelation is specifically sent to the redeemed servants of Jesus Christ. Those who don’t know Christ cannot possibly understand these revelations because these things are spiritually discerned.

I Corinthians 2: 14, “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Witnesses to Revelations: Greatest Witness

The Revelation of Jesus Christ is a culmination of the revealing of Jesus Christ throughout the Bible. But to understand the Revelation is to realize that the Revelation of Jesus Christ is sent from the Father himself; the Greatest Witness of all.

Revelation 1:1, “The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave him…”

Although the Father is invisible and can’t be seen or heard by men, it the Father who sends this message to mankind that reveals his only begotten Son, Jesus Christ as Savior of the world and Creator of heaven and earth.

John 3:16-17, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

Colossians 1:13-16, “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood; even the forgiveness of sins: Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature. For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him and for him.”

It is the will of the Father that sent Jesus and bears witness of Jesus.

John 5:37-40, “And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, not seen his shape. And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not. Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Message From the Father: Why Can’t We See Father?

Why can’t we see the Father?

The Father is the very soul of God. He is pure light which no man can approach. He is also a consuming fire. Only through Jesus can we know the Father.

I Timothy 6:14-16, “That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.”

Hebrews 12:28-29, “Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – 5 Witnesses to Revelations: Father Ordains Jesus

It is the Father that sent his only begotten Son Jesus Christ into the world to give man repentance, faith, salvation, and eternal life through the blood of Jesus…and it is the Father that ordains the Revelation of Christ.

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – 5 Witnesses to Revelations: Rejecting God’s Witness

To reject the message of Jesus Christ presented throughout the scriptures in the Bible, including the Revelation, is to call the Father a liar.

I John 5:10-12, “He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – 5 Witnesses to Revelations: Seek the Face of Jesus

Let us prayerfully and diligently seek the face of Jesus through all the scriptures of the Bible so that we might share them with the lost that they may be saved.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: Part 1

This post is the first of a multi-post series on Revelation Chapter 1. Revelation Chapter 1 gives us many clues about the entire book of Revelation and about understanding the importance of knowing Jesus Christ.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: My Goal

My goal is not to force people to believe everything I say, but my goal is to get people to search the scriptures that they might know Jesus Christ in a greater way.

For those who don’t know Jesus, I pray that they may gain a saving knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For those that already know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, I pray that they may be spurred into a deeper knowledge and fellowship with our Lord Jesus Christ.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: Check Everything Against the Scripture

The Bible tells us to check what anyone tells us against the scriptures. He even called those in Berea more noble for receiving the word and checking what Apostle Paul said against the scriptures. I certainly hope you check everything I say against the scriptures.

Although none of us has perfect knowledge of the word of God, we can know the things that God shows us through his word. That is why it’s important to check everything against the scriptures in the Bible.

Acts 17:10-11, “And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily whether those things were so.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: A Confession

I must confess at one time the Revelation of Jesus Christ was one of my least favorite books of the Bible. I had been told that no one could understand the book of Revelations.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: Other Claims

Others, who claimed to understand Revelations, focused on terror, destruction, and mayhem. Many of their accounts were not consistent with the rest of the scriptures in the Bible which led to confusion and fear of the things of this world…even for Christians. Very little was revealed about God’s love through Jesus Christ, God’s amazing plan for mankind, and God’s way of revealing himself in a more personal way to his people.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: A Breakthrough

I had to force myself to read the Revelation of Jesus Christ until one day I read and understood Revelation Chapter 1 verse 3.

Revelation 1:3, “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.”

It is apparent that God wants his children (servants) to understand the Revelation of Jesus Christ.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: Not a Book unto itself

The Book of the Revelation of Jesus Christ is not a book unto itself. It must be viewed in the light of the entire body of scriptures in the Bible. It is the climax of God’s plan for his children through Jesus Christ. There is no true understanding without knowing Jesus Christ, and Jesus is revealed throughout the scriptures in the entire Bible. Jesus said:

John 5:39-40, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: Why is it Important to Know Jesus Christ?

Why is it important to know Jesus? Because it is in knowing Jesus and the Father that we can have eternal life.

John 17:1-3, “These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son may also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. An this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”

A person might ask, “Well, can’t I have eternal life by just knowing the Father?” The answer is no. There is no way to the Father but through Jesus Christ the Savior of the world.

John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

I John 5:10-12, “He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”

Proverbs 21:30, “There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.”

Psalms 105:1-3, “O give thanks unto the Lord; call upon his name: make known his deeds among the people. Sing unto him, sing psalms unto him: talk ye of all his wondrous works. Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Seek the Lord, and his strength: seek his face evermore.

John 1:12, “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: God Loves His People

Our Lord Jesus is not waiting to smash us when we fail. He is telling his people, “I love you, seek me and I will answer.”

Jeremiah 29:11-13, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. Then shall ye call upon me, and ye shall go and pray unto me, and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.”

Hebrews 11:6, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: Calling Sinners to Repent

God is not waiting to hammer sinners, but is waiting for them to repent and turn to him that he might show them his great mercy and grace!

Jeremiah 26:13, “Therefore now amend your ways and your doings, and obey the voice of the Lord your God; and the Lord will repent him of the evil that he hath pronounced against you.”

II Peter 3:9, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: Who is God Talking To?

Jesus is very specific in who he calls. These are the people he is calling:

Jesus calls the lost sheep of Israel.

Matthew 10:6-7, “But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as you go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Jesus call the Gentiles.

Romans 2:9-11, “Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also the Gentile: But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God.

Jesus calls those of all nations.

Romans 1:5-6, “By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name: Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ.”

No one is exempted from the call to the glorious Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 11:28-30, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

God, the Father has ordained Jesus Christ as the promised Messiah Savior, Lord God, to the Jew, the Savior, Lord God, to the Gentile, and the Savior, Lord God, to the ends of the earth. He will save all who repent and come to him. There is none excepted. He doesn’t care who you are; he doesn’t care what you’ve done. Repent and come to him and he is waiting to love you and give you his righteousness and give you eternal life through Jesus Christ. For Jesus is the only way to eternal life. There is no other way.

John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

Revelation Chapter 1 – Key to Understanding Jesus Christ: My Prayer

It is my sincere prayer that all who read these words will repent of their sins and diligently seek the Lord Jesus Christ that they may receive the blessing of eternal life that only comes through the only Son of God, Jesus Christ.

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Calling on the Name of the Lord: Seth and Enos

God’s word reveals the his mercy extends to all generations

Genesis 4:25-26, “And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel whom Cain slew. And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord.”

These two verses demonstrate the amazing love of God toward man. In the face of man rejecting God – God still makes provision for man’s salvation.

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Calling on the Name of the Lord: Eve

It is obvious that Eve repented and relied on the mercy of the Lord by recognizing that God had given her another seed. Of this seed came the linage of Noah, Abraham, Israel, and ultimately Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Calling on the Name of the Lord: All Generations

It is in these verses that we learn that men who call upon the name of the Lord in all generations receive salvation.

Genesis 4:26, “…then men began to call upon the name of the Lord.”

Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Those in all generations who have sought the Lord have received salvation. But they could not be perfected without the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 11:13, “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.”

Hebrews 11:39-40, “And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect.”

The Lord Jesus, whose mercy is beyond understanding, has provided salvation for those who have sought him with all their heart throughout all generations.

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Calling on the Name of the Lord: Share Jesus

May we be encouraged to share Jesus with all we meet that they might be saved and Jesus be glorified.

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Worldly Riches and Success: Cain’s Family
The Bible reveals truths by studying the events of Cain and his family.

Genesis 4:18-24, “And unto E’noch was born I’rad: and I’rad begat Me-hu’ja-el: and Me-hu’ja-el begat Me-thusa-el: and Me-thusa-el begat La’mech.

And La’mech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was A’dah, and the name of the other Zil’lah. And A’dah bare Ja’bal: he was the father of such as dwell in tents, and of such as have cattle. And his brother’s name was Ju’bal: he was the father of all such as handle the harp and organ. And Zil’lah, she also bare Tu’bal-cain, an instructer of every artificer in brass and iron: and the sister of Tu’bal-cain was Na’a-mah. And La’mech said unto his wives, A’dah and Zil’lah, Hear my voice; ye wives of La’mech, hearken unto my speech: for I have slain a man to my wounding, and a young man to my hurt. If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly La’mech seventy and sevenfold.”

On the surface it seems that Cain’s family prospered after he walked out of the presence of God. Why does God put these verses in the Bible?

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Worldly Riches and Success: Examples for our Learning

These verses were written for our examples to teach us.

Cain’s family did achieve success in the world, but success in this world is fleeting. Also, the Bible reveals a heart problem. (Not a physical heart problem, but a spiritual heart problem.)

Lamech was the first recorded polygamist, and the second recorded murderer. But his worst sin is considering himself greater than God. (“If Cain shall be avenged sevenfold, truly La’mech seventy and sevenfold.” Genesis 4:24)
Remember that the Lord said, “…whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold…” Genesis 4:15.

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Worldly Riches and Success: Consequences

Cain’s rebellion was continued by his family.

Cain’s refusal to submit to the chastisement of God and walking out of God’s presence produced consequences for his family. All remembrance of his family has been wiped out except for these few verses in the Bible.

Our actions of today certainly have an impact on our children tomorrow. Cain chose material wealth over the wealth of knowing and being eternally blessed by God.

Jesus spoke a parable, (Luke 12:15-21), about coveting earthly riches.

Luke 12:15, “And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”

The parable reveals a rich man who revels in his riches and dies suddenly. The parable ends with the following verse.

Luke 12:21, “So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”

Riches in this life are only temporal. Riches toward God are eternal.

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Worldly Riches and Success: The Point

What is the point of today’s blog?

Simply this. Just as Cain’s refusal to submit to God caused consequences for his family, so also our refusal to submit to God causes consequences for our families.

Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”

Just as mankind has rebelled from God, so also children rebel against their parents at some point. But, if we raise them in the ways of the Lord they will return and be blessed.

Remember, God will forgive anyone who repents and turns to the Lord Jesus Christ, but those who train their children in the ways of the Lord can rely on definite promises from God.

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Cain Builds Enoch: Cain’s City

Cain decided he didn’t need God. Cain created his own works.

Genesis 4:17-18, “And Cain knew his wife; and she conceived, and bare E’noch: and he builded a city, and called the name of the city after the name of his son, E’noch. And unto E’noch was born I’rad: and I’rad begat Me-hu’ja-el: and Me-hu’ja-el begat Me-thusa-el: and Me-thusa-el begat La’mech.”

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Cain Builds Enoch: Looks are Deceiving

After Cain left the presence of God he built the city Enoch which is named after his son. It seems that Cain was able to prosper without God in his life, but looks can be deceiving.

Jude 1:10-13, “But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves. Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Ba’laam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Co’re. These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots; Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.“
