Laying on Hands: Gifts of the Spirit
Laying on Hands: Gifts of the Spirit
Have you ever been given a job and not been given the proper tools to accomplish that job? I have. I have been on plenty of jobs where the right tools weren’t provided. Those jobs were difficult at best.
Laying on Hands: Gifts are given to Believers by God
The great thing about being a Christian is that God has given gifts to all his servants
to accomplish their purpose. A Christian’s purpose is to witness about Jesus to a lost world, grow in grace, and edify the church of Christ. That is one of the purposes of Laying on Hands…to equip the saints for service.
- I Timothy 4:14, “Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which was given by prophecy, with the laying on of the hands of the presbytery.”
Laying on Hands: Gives as God Chooses
God has provided every Christian with the proper tools to accomplish his earthly mission, but the tools that God provides are given as God chooses…not as man chooses.
- I Corinthians 12:4-11, “Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the Word of Wisdom; to another the Word of Knowledge by the same Spirit: To another Faith by the same Spirit; to another Gifts of Healing by the same Spirit; To another the Working of Miracles; to another Prophecy; to another Divers Kinds of Tongues; to another the Interpretation of Tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.”
Laying on Hands: The gifts of the Spirit are:
- Word of Wisdom
- Word of Knowledge
- Faith
- Gifts of Healing
- Working of Miracles
- Prophecy
- Divers Kinds of Tongues
- Interpretation of Tongues
Laying on Hands: Gifts to Confirm Word of God
Signs will follow believers that join the service of the Lord. And these signs are performed by the Lord to confirm the word of God! God’s word is the word of power and every believer must realize the power is the Lord’s and must be used to glorify Jesus Christ and his gospel.
Laying on Hands: Prayer of the Apostles
Listen to the prayer of the Apostles.
- Acts 4:24-30, “And now Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus.”
It is apparent by their prayer the apostles considered themselves servants of the Lord Jesus Christ, and knew God would confirm his word by granting healing and signs and wonders be done in the name of Jesus.
Laying on Hands: A WORD OF CAUTION.
Every gift that God gives must glorify Jesus Christ the Lord of glory and be in complete agreement with God’s Word. There is no gift or administration that supersedes the Word of God. If any wisdom, knowledge, or understanding is contrary to the Word of God (the Bible) then it is not from God.
- Proverbs 21:30, “There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.”
