The Fall of Man – Earth and Names
The Fall of Man – Earth and Names: Their Importance
Many times we read the Bible and fail to recognize important facts. Two facts I overlooked in the Bible when I read about the fall of man dealt with Earth and Names. Discovering their importance can help our walk with Christ.
- Genesis 2:18-20, “And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should
be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.”
The Fall of Man – Earth and Names: The Animals
These verses are interesting in the fact that God declares that all animals were taken from the ground. The physical makeup of all animals are made from elements from the ground.
I remember when I was younger that scientists declared that the value of a person’s body was about $1.92 (give or take a cent or two.)
Again we see the truth of God’s word in the physical makeup of all living organisms. The same compounds that make up man and the animals are found in the ground.
Remember, that these statements were made thousands of years before science’s ability to prove anything. Just another reminder of God’s truth and greatness.
The Fall of Man – Earth and Names: Names
Another interesting piece of information is that Adam was given the honor of bestowing names on the animals. The giving of names seems to indicate the dominance of the giver over the receiver.
God named man.
Man named the animals.
Parents name their children.
Owners name their pets.
The Fall of Man – Earth and Names: Importance of Names
The importance of names in the Bible is evident.
God changing the name of Abram to Abraham (The father of many nations) Genesis 17:5.
God changing the name of Sarai to Sarah, (A mother of nations) Genesis 17:15.
God naming Isaac. Genesis 17:19.
God changes Jacob’s name to Israel. Genesis 32:28.
But most importantly:
- Acts 4:10-12, “Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”
The greatest name, Jesus Christ, is the only way men can be saved.
In Christ,
