The Fall of Man – Enmity Between Woman and Serpent
The Fall of Man – Enmity Between Woman and Serpent: Curse of the Serpent
It is during the curse God put on the serpent that he put enmity between woman and the serpent. What is the meaning of these words spoken by the Lord in the Garden?
- Genesis 3:15, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy
seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.”
It is interesting to note that the seed of the woman and the seed of the serpent would hate each other. Man in his weakness has continually fought sin and failed. Only in Christ can man overcome sin.
This is a foreshadowing of Christ. Just as it is foretold that the seed of the woman would bruise the serpent’s head. So Christ, born of a virgin, as his feet were nailed to the cross triumphed over the head of the serpent, (Satan, the father of sin), and forever gives salvation to all who call on him.
- Hebrews 2:9, “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.”
- Hebrews 2:14, “Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.”
The Fall of Man – Enmity Between Woman and Serpent: Keys of Hell and Death
It is Christ who gained the keys of hell and death through his resurrection from death. It is he that suffered, died, and rose again to defeat death that we might have eternal life through him. He has destroyed all the works of the serpent, (the devil). It is only a matter of time before Satan and all his followers are thrown into the lake of fire.
- Revelation 1:18, “I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and death.”
- Revelation 20:10, “And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.”
- Revelation 20:14-15, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”
Praise God, who has given provision for salvation through his holy Son, Jesus Christ.
Let those of us who know Christ renew our efforts to share the gospel of our Lord Jesus that others may also share in his eternal blessings.
In Christ
