The Fall of Man – Sin

The Fall of Man – Sin

The Fall of Man – Sin: Lust of the Eyes, Lust of the Flesh, Pride of Life

Man is tempted by three things on earth.  All sin stems from these three temptations.  What temptations bring sin and the fall of man.

  • Genesis 3:6, “And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food,The Fall of Man - Sin: All sin stems from three temptations. and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.”

Verse 6 reveals the lusts that the devil uses to tempt mankind: “When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, (lust of the flesh); “and that it was pleasant to the eyes,” (lust of the eyes); “and a tree to be desired to make one wise,” (pride of life).

All sin comes from lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life.

  • I John 2:16-17, “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth forever.”

If only we would learn to hate these lusts, then we would have peace and joy.

The Fall of Man – Sin: Sin and Transgression

It is also interesting to note that Adam was with Eve and did not step in to stop her. Remember that God said, “In the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

God gave Adam the command not to eat of the fruit before Eve was created. Adam was not deceived, he was responsible for the sin.

  • II Corinthians 11:3, “But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.”
  • I Timothy 2:14, And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in transgression.”

(The above verse shows the difference between transgression and sin. Transgression comes from deception, sin is a willful act.)

  • I Corinthians 15:22, “For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.”

It is evident from scripture that death indeed was brought by Adam’s sin. How callous Adam was to watch Eve eat the fruit after God had warned him.

The Fall of Man – Sin: Share Christ

As Christians we cannot sit by and watch the world perish, as Adam watched Eve eat the fruit. We must share the love of Jesus and share the hope of eternal life that rests with Christ alone.

In Christ.
