Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Defiance

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Defiance: Complete Rebellion

It is sad that Cain chose to leave God’s presence. He was in complete rebellion against God.

  • Genesis 4:16, “And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt inTragedy of Abel and Cain - Defiance: Rebellion against God the land of Nod, on the east side of Eden.”

In this one act Cain reveals the heart of mankind. Cain would rather suffer the vengeance of God than to face his sin and repent.

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Defiance: Even today Men Reject Their Creator

It is sad, but many men today would rather reject God and face certain judgment than to repent.

  • Romans 1:18-32, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
  • Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
  • For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
  • Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
  • Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
  • And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
  • Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
  • Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
  • For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
  • And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
  • And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
  • Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness, full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
  • Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding; covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
  • Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Defiance: Rejection and Rebellion Against God

The horrible truth of mankind is that we have rejected and rebelled against God. He did not turn his back on us, but we turned our backs on him. Many even now proclaim, “Freedom from God, there is no god, we are our own god.”

  • Tragedy of Abel and Cain – Defiance: God’s Mercy

God continues to reach out to us. He has given his Son Jesus Christ that we might repent and turn to him that we might be saved and have eternal life.

Every person on earth is guilty of sin before God. If we will but repent from our sin and turn to God through Jesus Christ we can be saved.

  • Romans 10:8-13, “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
  • That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
  • For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
  • For the scripture saith, Whosover believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
  • For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
  • For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Let us choose life and live.

In Christ,
